I faced the numbers instead of letting fear do the accounting for me
Dear Delyara, For months I had been living in that awful in-between state where I knew things were tight enough to frighten me, but I was still mostly handling that fear emotionally instead of practically. I checked balances too often without making decisions. I opened some letters late. I guessed instead of sitting with the truth properly. I carried dread around like it counted as financial management. Then one night, after the children were asleep, I spread everything out on the table. The bills. The debts. The subscriptions I had forgotten about. The direct debits. The real total. Not the softened version. Not the version in my head that changed depending on how scared I was. The real one. I cried halfway through. Then I kept going. I cancelled what I could. I called who I needed to. I arranged one plan. I cut three pointless drains of money I had been too emotionally exhausted to look at clearly before. Nothing turned glamorous. I didn’t suddenly become financially free. But I did become less foggy, and that alone changed the entire emotional tone of the month. The victory was not abundance. It was moving from fear into fact.
