I feel essential to the mechanics of this family and strangely unheld inside its emotional life
Dear Delyara, I matter everywhere practically. Meals. School. Forms. Timing. Mood shifts. Memory. Anticipation. If something is missed, delayed, softened, carried, usually it has passed through me in some form first. And still, emotionally, I often feel just outside the warmest part of the room. Not unloved. That’s too simple. Unheld. As if what I provide is so tied to function that the softer parts of me rarely get met unless I am already visibly close to breaking, and by then the care arrives in crisis language instead of in the ordinary daily tenderness I think I have been starved for far longer than anyone realises. That hurts in a very quiet way. The kind that can live in a woman for years without ever becoming loud enough to justify itself to anyone else.
