The WeightGuilt
I feel guilty for resenting things I also chose
Dear Delyara, Motherhood. Marriage. Work. The house. The responsibilities. The school forms. The emotional labour. The endless logistics. I chose so much of this life, and there are days I resent it anyway. That makes guilt arrive fast. Because if I chose it, shouldn’t I carry it more gracefully? Shouldn’t love make the weight feel lighter? Shouldn’t gratitude protect me from the ugly little thoughts that sometimes come at 7:15 p.m. while I’m wiping the table for the third time and mentally listing everything still left to do? Apparently not. I think one of the quieter shames of adulthood is resenting parts of the very life you worked hard to build. But I suspect it’s far more common than we let each other say.
