The WeightGuilt
I feel guilty whenever I need more softness than the day is willing to give
Dear Delyara, A slower tone. Less noise. Less touch. Less interruption. More time. A little grace. Fewer demands after seven. A room where I don’t have to decide anything for twenty minutes. None of these are outrageous needs. And yet the second I need them, guilt arrives as if I have failed some adult test. It tells me other women manage more. Better women absorb more. Kinder women don’t need so much recovery. Stronger mothers don’t feel half-hostile at the sound of their own name by evening. More evolved people don’t need to sit in the car before going inside. That voice is merciless. And because it is internal, it follows me everywhere. The need itself is hard enough. The guilt is what turns it into shame. That’s what exhausts me most.
