I feel important to the running of this family and strangely invisible inside its softness
Dear Delyara, I matter constantly in practical ways. Meals, school, clothes, timing, feelings, remembering, spotting problems before they happen, carrying the shape of everyone’s day in my head. If I vanished from the practical structure of this family for even forty-eight hours, the silence would be very loud. And yet there are evenings where I feel emotionally unseen in my own house. Not unloved. Unseen. Useful, yes. Needed, deeply. But not always gathered in. Not always read. Not always held without first having to become the one needing it so visibly that everyone has to stop and notice. I am tired of how often women have to be very close to collapse before the family recognises that the person holding so much also has an inner life of her own.
