The SilenceLoneliness

I feel lonelier at night than I do when I’m alone

Dear Delyara, When I’m physically alone, at least the loneliness makes sense. There’s no confusion in it. But some nights, when everyone is home and the house is full of normal life, I feel something worse. I feel emotionally absent in the middle of contact. There are voices, questions, routines, movement, dinner, screens, and still there’s this aching sense that no one has really reached me all day. I’ve been useful, yes. Present, yes. Needed, definitely. But not met. That kind of loneliness is hard to talk about because from the outside it looks like I have plenty. Family, conversation, life, noise. But none of that automatically touches the part of me that feels most alone. And at night, when the rooms quiet down, I feel the truth of it more sharply.
