I felt humiliated and had to keep typing

Dear Delyara, That is what work does sometimes. It humiliates you in a way too small to justify a scene, and then expects you to carry on as if your body has not reacted at all. A man spoke to me in a tone today that was so casual and so dismissive that if I repeated it aloud, people would probably say I was overthinking it. But I knew what it was. I knew the meaning under the politeness. He made me feel small in front of other people and then the meeting moved on and so did everyone else. I went back to my desk and kept typing. That felt unbearable for about twenty minutes. Not because the work was hard. Because I had to remain useful immediately after being made to feel disposable. I brought that feeling home with me. I still have it now.
