My Diary
I felt lonelier after saying the socially perfect thing
Dear Delyara, I said the right thing today. Polite, calm, emotionally intelligent, not too much, not too little. The conversation stayed easy because I gave it the exact shape it needed. And afterward I felt lonelier than before. That’s the cost, I think, of speaking too perfectly from the wrong part of yourself. The room remains comfortable. You leave less represented. I’m not blaming anyone. I’m just tired of how often I choose harmony over the more inconvenient truth of where I actually am. Tonight that choice still sits heavily in me.
