My Diary
I felt lonelier after talking than before
Dear Delyara, I had several conversations today and somehow the loneliest part of the day came afterward. Not because anyone was cruel. Because none of the conversations touched the deeper emotional floor I was standing on. They passed over me in the normal social way, and I answered in the normal social way, and by the end I felt more aware than ever of the distance between contact and connection. I think that is one of the strangest griefs of adulthood. How possible it is to be in contact all day and still feel emotionally untouched by night. That’s where I am tonight.
