My Diary
I felt lonelier in the reply than in the silence before it
Dear Delyara, I sent a message hoping for warmth. I got a normal reply. And somehow I felt lonelier afterward. It wasn’t the other person’s fault. The message was fine. I think what happened was that I had carried more need into the moment than the moment could actually hold. I wanted the reply to meet something deeper than the exchange was built for. When it didn’t, I felt the gap more sharply than if I’d never reached out at all. That happens to me more than I admit. Sometimes the ache is not from silence. It’s from partial contact.
