I felt more alone after the message than before it

Dear Delyara, I got a message today that was perfectly normal and somehow it left me feeling lonelier than before I read it. Not because it was unkind. Because it made me realize how much I was hoping for a depth it was never designed to hold. I think sometimes we ask small forms of contact to carry larger emotional hopes, and then feel the gap once they don’t. The message was fine. I was the one carrying more into it. That realization stayed with me all afternoon.
