My Diary

I felt more behind myself than behind my tasks

Dear Delyara, The tasks were there, yes. But they weren’t the real issue. The real issue was that I felt emotionally late to my own day. Conversations happened before I had caught up internally. Decisions needed making before I had fully felt what the previous moment had already cost me. Even when I was doing what needed doing, I had this strange sense that the deeper self in me was arriving afterward, trying to catch up with the version of me already out there performing adulthood. That kind of delay is hard to explain because it doesn’t look dramatic. It just makes everything feel slightly misaligned. I think that is why some days leave me feeling more emptied than others. Not because they contain worse events. Because I spend them one beat behind my own emotional life. Tonight I’m hoping sleep closes that distance a little.
