My Diary
I felt more relief than happiness
Dear Delyara, I think that matters as a distinction. There was a good moment today, and what I felt was not joy exactly. It was relief. Relief that nothing more was being asked. Relief that the room had gone quiet. Relief that a difficult task was over. Relief that no new emotional problem had entered the day. Maybe this is what tired seasons do — they lower the emotional bar. Happiness becomes rare, but relief becomes profound. That doesn’t make the moment less real. Only different than I might once have named it.
