My Diary

I Felt Peace for a Few Minutes and Didn’t Distrust It

Dear Delyara, Something good happened tonight. Not big. Not dramatic. Not something anyone else would notice. I felt peaceful for a few minutes and I didn’t immediately distrust it. Usually when calm arrives, I become suspicious. I wait for the interruption. I brace for the bad message, the disappointing thought, the emotional drop. Peace has often felt like the silence before something goes wrong. But tonight was different. I was sitting with a cup of tea, the room dim, no one asking anything of me, and for a few minutes I let the moment be simple. I didn’t improve it. I didn’t narrate it. I didn’t ask whether I deserved it or how long it would last. I just let it exist. That might sound like nothing to someone else, but to me it felt like evidence that my nervous system is learning a new language. One where calm does not always equal danger. One where rest does not have to be earned through exhaustion. One where quiet can just be quiet. I want to remember that tonight. Not because it fixes anything. Because it reminds me that peace can still find me — and more importantly, that I am beginning to let it stay for a minute when it does.
