I finally spoke in the meeting without editing myself smaller first

Dear Delyara, I am used to preparing my own ideas in softer packaging before offering them to a room — less direct, less certain, less likely to make anyone uncomfortable. I’ve been calling that professionalism for so long that I almost forgot how much self-erasure was hiding inside it. This week I said what I thought plainly. Not aggressively. Not theatrically. Just clearly, as though my idea had the same right to exist in the room as everyone else’s. No apology attached. No long preamble to make it easier for other people to receive. What happened mattered, but not as much as I expected: the room took it seriously. They used it. The meeting moved on. The deeper victory was internal. I felt what it was like not to shrink myself in advance. I want more of my working life to be built from that voice.
