I finally stopped buying myself the cheapest version of everything

Dear Delyara, This did not happen in one heroic moment. It happened in a shop, in front of a shelf, while choosing shampoo. I stood there holding the cheap one I always buy for myself and the better one I actually wanted. Nothing about the scene was dramatic, but the thought that came into my head felt bigger than the bottle in my hand: why am I always the person I cut first? That question stayed with me. It isn’t only shampoo. It is shoes, food, underwear, pillows, coats, rest, appointments, little comforts, everyday kindnesses. If something belongs to my body or my life, I immediately start negotiating downward as if my comfort is the least important budget line in the house. That day, I bought the better one. Then I bought a proper bra. Then I replaced the shoes that hurt me every week. Then I booked the massage I had said was “too much” for over a year, even though I was carrying pain in my shoulders every night. What changed was not my finances overnight. What changed was the story. I stopped treating my own comfort like a guilty luxury. I started treating it like part of the structure that keeps me kind, present, and alive in my own life. That has changed more than I expected.
