I finished the application I had been emotionally postponing for a year
Dear Delyara, Not because I didn’t want it. Because I did. That’s what made it so frightening. As long as the application remained unfinished, the possibility remained untested. I could still imagine a future version of me living that life, doing that work, being that woman. Once I submitted it, reality would have a turn. They could reject me. Ignore me. See through me. Confirm every private fear I had about being too late, too tired, too inexperienced, too stretched, too ordinary. I lived in that hesitation for months. Then one Tuesday night, after a particularly deadening day, I sat down and finished it. Not gracefully. I doubted every sentence. I rewrote the statement three times. I hovered over submit until my tea went cold. But I did it. The victory was not getting a guaranteed result. It was refusing to keep protecting myself with fantasy. I let reality in. That is what movement looks like in my life right now, and I am proud of it.
