Small JoysQuiet Moments
I folded warm washing in a patch of afternoon sun
Dear Delyara, Still, something about it felt peaceful in a way I hadn’t felt all week. The clothes were warm from the dryer, the sun was coming through the window, the house was quiet for once, and for a few minutes the task stayed only a task. It didn’t become symbolic. It didn’t get interrupted. It didn’t ask me to also answer something else while doing it. I think that’s why it felt so good. It’s not always joy itself I’m starving for. Sometimes it’s completion. One simple thing done from beginning to end without being broken open by the next demand. That happened. It mattered.
