My Diary
I folded washing while listening to other people’s lives in a podcast
Dear Delyara, There was something so lonely about it. Not because the podcast was sad. It was actually interesting. But halfway through matching socks and shaking out school shirts, I became aware of the strange gap between hearing voices and being in contact. There I was, doing one of the most repetitive tasks in my life, with someone’s polished conversation in my ears and nobody actually in the room with me. I think that’s part of modern loneliness too. So much company, so little actual being-with. The washing got folded. The feeling stayed.
