My Diary

I forgot the library day and my son looked so disappointed I wanted to disappear

Dear Delyara, That’s one of the hardest maternal feelings. Not disaster. Disappointment that arrives wearing your child’s trust. He had brought the book down and left it by the door yesterday, which somehow made it worse. He had done his part. I moved the bag, answered a phone call, sorted dinner, and then this morning left the book sitting there like a little accusation on the hallway table. He didn’t cry. He just looked disappointed. That look stayed with me all day. Not because I believe one forgotten library book defines me. Because motherhood is full of these tiny moments where your own overfullness brushes against somebody else’s small hope.
