My Diary

I forgot the washing in the machine overnight

Dear Delyara, I opened the door in the morning and got hit with that cold damp smell immediately. That smell feels like guilt to me now. Not because one load of washing is a moral event. Because it’s always one more sign that my mind was too full to finish one ordinary thing properly before sleep. It tells me the day beat me by half a step again. I rewrote the story in my head three times while re-washing it. You were tired. You did enough. This happens. Still, another voice kept saying, no, you are slipping. It’s exhausting how quickly a wet load of clothes can become a referendum on my competence when I’m already worn out.
