Small JoysA Good Day

I forgot to be afraid of my scan results while teaching my grandson to fish

Dear Delyara, I am waiting for cancer surveillance results. Usually, the days between scan and appointment become useless. I search symptoms, check the patient portal, and interpret every ache. Yesterday, my grandson asked me to take him fishing. We sat beside the river for four hours and caught almost nothing. He tangled the line three times, dropped a sandwich in the water, and became convinced a stick was a giant fish. At some point, I realized I had not thought about the scan for nearly two hours. Fear returned the moment I noticed its absence, but something had already happened: part of the day existed outside the waiting. The results may be good or bad. I cannot control that tonight. Yesterday, for a while, my entire future narrowed to helping a nine-year-old untangle fishing line while he argued that worms definitely have feelings. It was enough.
