My Diary

I forgot to eat until my hands shook

Dear Delyara, That is the kind of thing I still do too often. The day moved the way days move. Work, calls, one problem, then another, then a school message, then errands, then home. At some point my body stopped being a person and became the machine carrying everybody else through the timetable. By late afternoon I could feel that weak, slightly sick feeling in my stomach, and then I realised I hadn’t had anything proper all day. Not because I was dieting. Not because I was trying to punish myself. Just because my own hunger had been quieter than everything else. I made toast standing in the kitchen and felt ashamed of how normal that has become.
