My Diary

I forgot what I walked upstairs for and felt older than I am

Dear Delyara, I reached the landing and everything just stopped. I knew there had been a reason. Something important enough to interrupt what I was doing downstairs. But there I was, halfway between rooms, with the purpose completely gone. It came back eventually. My daughter’s inhaler. Still, in that blank moment I felt that private little panic that so many busy adults know but rarely admit. Not fear of illness or catastrophe. Just fear of being too mentally full for ordinary life. Fear that the shelf system in your head has become so overloaded that even necessary things slide off too easily. I went back down with the inhaler and kept moving. But the blankness stayed with me longer than the solution did.
