My Diary

I found a £10 note in an old handbag and it changed my mood more than it should have

Dear Delyara, I was looking for a receipt and found the note folded in the inside zip pocket of a handbag I haven’t used in months. Ten pounds. Not wealth. Not salvation. But enough to make me feel, for one absurd little moment, as though the universe had slipped me a hand on the shoulder. I think that’s what pressure does to a person. It makes small relief feel strangely intimate. Not because the money was huge. Because it arrived with no labour attached. No negotiation. No mental arithmetic. Just a tiny unexpected softening. I used part of it on strawberries and a decent loaf of bread. That felt exactly right.
