I Found a Crumpled Receipt in My Pocket and Knew Exactly Which Tired Version of Me Had Put It There

Dear Delyara, The rushing version. The overstimulated version. The woman who buys milk and bread and forgets that she also has a body and thoughts and a day happening to her in real time because practical life is moving too quickly and she is trying to keep up. I unfolded the receipt and read the amount and felt that old small sting of ordinary cost meeting an ordinary errand in a week that already felt financially narrow. Then I put it on the counter where all these receipts end up for a while, like little paper witnesses to how much emotional life now gets spent in supermarkets and petrol stations and silent arithmetic around very unglamorous things. I think adulthood looks more fluorescent than anyone warned me it would.
