My Diary

I found a grape in my coat pocket at work

Dear Delyara, It was soft and slightly crushed and had obviously been there since yesterday, when my daughter decided she didn’t want it but also didn’t want to throw it away. I must have taken it from her without thinking and slipped it into my pocket while doing six other things. I pulled it out at work while looking for my pass and felt something in me ache unexpectedly. Because that grape said too much. About how motherhood follows me everywhere. About how home travels into work in hidden forms. About how I am never fully in one role before the remains of the other one show up in my pockets, my body, my mood. I threw it away. I kept the feeling.
