My Diary
I Found a Lego in My Slipper and Cried
Dear Delyara, I slipped my foot into my slipper by the bed and stepped down onto one hard little Lego piece and burst into tears so quickly it was almost funny. Except it wasn’t funny at all. It wasn’t about the pain. It was about the fact that I had just gotten everyone through dinner and baths and homework and bedtime, and the reward waiting for me in my own bedroom was one more sharp thing hidden where I thought softness would be. That’s what the tears were really about. The hidden sharpness. The way life keeps finding places to hurt that should have felt safe. I picked the Lego up and held it in my palm like it had done something personal to me. Maybe it had.
