My Diary

I found a raisin stuck to my sleeve at work

Dear Delyara, I looked down in the meeting and there it was — one small dried raisin clinging to my black sleeve like evidence. I almost laughed. Instead I felt this wave of tenderness and tiredness together. Because that’s my life now. I leave the house dressed as one version of myself and still bring traces of the other one with me. A child’s snack. A note in the pocket. A medicine spoon in the bag. School glitter on my coat. Motherhood does not stop at the front door. It travels. And some days I am touched by that. Other days it makes me feel like I never fully get to arrive anywhere as one whole thing. Yesterday it made me feel both.
