I found a school jumper in the boot of the car and felt oddly defeated
Dear Delyara, I was only looking for the shopping bags. Instead I found my son’s school jumper crumpled in the corner beside an empty water bottle and one muddy football sock. The jumper had apparently been there long enough to lose all shape and dignity. I just stood there with the boot open, staring at it, feeling far more tired than one piece of clothing deserved. I think it was because it represented the kind of life I’m living now. So many things in motion, so many small loose ends, so many objects travelling between home, school, work, and the car, waiting for me to notice them before they become tomorrow’s problem. I picked it up, shook it out, and took it inside. No one else would have thought much of it. For me, it felt like one more reminder that I am the person who eventually finds what everyone else leaves behind.
