My Diary

I found my daughter’s earring in the cutlery drawer

Dear Delyara, I was looking for teaspoons and found one small silver earring instead. That is such an ordinary sentence, and still it made me stop. Because that is what this life feels like now — everybody’s days shedding into the house in little pieces, and me discovering them later in the middle of some other task. An earring in the cutlery drawer. A school note in the fruit bowl. A sock in my handbag. A half-eaten cereal bar in the car door. Nothing dramatic. Just evidence that I am living inside a life where nothing stays in one category for long. I put the earring on the counter and stood there for a moment longer than I needed to. Not tired exactly. Just full.
