My Diary

I found my daughter’s note in my coat pocket while paying for petrol

Dear Delyara, It just said, “Good luck today xx.” Three little words. Crumpled slightly. Written fast. Probably pushed into my pocket while I was packing bags or looking for keys or half-listening to two things at once. I hadn’t even known it was there. I pulled it out at the petrol station and stood there under those awful bright lights feeling suddenly softer in the middle of a very ordinary errand. That’s what children do sometimes. They put one small note into a day and rearrange its emotional weight without even trying. I folded it carefully and put it back. That felt important.
