My Diary

I found the school letter in my handbag at work

Dear Delyara, I was looking for my pass and pulled out a crumpled school letter instead. That one small piece of paper made me feel absurdly emotional. Not because of what was written on it. Because it reminded me how little separation there is now between the parts of my life. Work in one hand, school in the other, home somewhere in my shoulders, money in the background, one child’s mood still sitting in my chest from breakfast. I smoothed the letter on the desk and read it under office lights while pretending to be a fully professional person with a clear head. I’m not sure I have had a clear head in months.
