My Diary

I found the unopened bank letter under a toy dinosaur and left it there for another hour

Dear Delyara, Not because I’m irresponsible. Because I knew I didn’t have the right kind of strength for it yet. There are some pieces of paper you open with practical attention. Others you need a steadier nervous system for. Yesterday, with dinner half-started and one child already overstimulated, I knew the bank letter was the second kind. So I saw it, registered it, and left it there under a plastic dinosaur like a tiny absurd still life of modern adult stress. I opened it later, when the house was quieter. It was manageable. Still, I’m struck by how often adulthood becomes the art of choosing the least damaging moment for bad timing.
