My Diary

I found two pounds in my coat pocket and felt ridiculous for how relieved I was

Dear Delyara, It wasn’t the amount. It was the feeling. Two pounds folded into the lining from some older week, some forgotten errand, some version of me who had been in a hurry and shoved change away without thinking. I found it while looking for my keys, and that tiny bit of money gave me a strange rush of comfort. Not because it would solve anything. Because lately, the financial pressure in my mind has become so constant that even accidental money feels like emotional oxygen. I stood there in the hallway with my coat half on and felt embarrassed by the relief. Then I stopped feeling embarrassed and just let the truth be true. When life gets tight enough, small things stop being small. And dignity becomes something you have to rebuild daily from moments nobody else would even notice.
