I gambled away the money for my mother’s funeral

Dear Delyara, My mother died three weeks ago. My sisters sent me the money for the funeral deposit because I am the oldest and was supposed to handle everything. I lost it online. I meant to place one bet. Just enough to win a little extra so we could afford the better coffin she would have wanted. Then I lost. Then I tried to win back the loss. By morning, €4,800 was gone. My sisters think the funeral home made a mistake with the invoice. I told them the bank had frozen the transfer. Tomorrow, we are supposed to meet the director again. I have no money. My mother hated gambling. My father lost our rent at the betting shop more than once, and she used to tell me, “Never become the kind of man who makes a woman afraid of the mailbox.” I became him anyway. She is waiting to be buried. And I have turned even her death into a debt someone else will have to carry.
