I gave away the bed where my husband died
Dear Delyara, My husband died at home in our bed. For three years, I slept in the spare room and kept our bedroom untouched. Therapy never forced me to change it, but eventually I realized I was preserving the room more carefully than I was living in the rest of the house. Last month, I contacted a furniture charity. Today, they collected the bed. I nearly cancelled when the van arrived. Instead, I stood in the hallway while two men carried the frame downstairs. Afterward, the room looked enormous. I sat on the floor where the bed had been and cried until my back hurt. Then I opened the window. Healing did not make the bed ordinary. I simply decided the place where he died could stop being the largest piece of furniture in my life.
