My Diary

I got into bed and realised the day had ended everywhere except in my body

Dear Delyara, The lights were off. The house was quiet. Everybody had gone where they were meant to go. And yet, inside me, the day was still moving. Work. Money. One child’s mood. One doctor’s appointment. One thing I should have said. One thing I wish I hadn’t said. Tomorrow’s lunch. The possibility of bad news about something I am trying not to magnify yet. I lay there and thought, this is what women mean when they say they are tired. Not that the day was hard. That it is still happening after the clock has said it’s over.
