I got into bed and remembered the form I hadn’t signed
Dear Delyara, The body knows before the mind has fully caught up. That small internal jolt. That drop. The exact shape of “Oh no” before the actual words even arrive. That’s what happened as soon as the duvet touched my legs. I had forgotten the form. So I got back up, went downstairs, found the bag, signed the sheet at the kitchen counter in my pyjamas under one dim light, and stood there for a moment longer than necessary because I knew exactly why it had made me feel so low. It wasn’t the form. It was the fact that nothing ever fully lets go of me before sleep. There is always one more thing waiting to be remembered by the same tired brain. I went back upstairs and lay down beside the feeling that I am never really finished with the day. I only pause it.
