Small JoysQuiet Moments

I Had Ten Full Minutes in the Kitchen with a Hot Drink and No One Needed Me

Dear Delyara, It sounds tiny. It did not feel tiny. No one called my name. No school app lit up. No work message arrived pretending not to be work. No husband asked a practical question. No child suddenly remembered something urgent from tomorrow. No one needed a decision, a reminder, an answer, an opinion, or a softer version of my voice. It was just me, a mug, a chair, and ten whole minutes. What moved me was not the tea. It was the completion. The rarity of something reaching me whole. So much of my life now arrives already interrupted or partly claimed by someone else’s need before it fully becomes mine. This didn’t. I drank it while it was hot. I sat all the way down in the moment. And my body responded as if I had offered it something far larger than tea. Maybe I had. Maybe what I offered it was undisturbed existence. That feels almost luxurious now.
