I have not opened the email from the conservatory
Dear Delyara, I auditioned for the conservatory three weeks ago. The result arrived this afternoon. I know because the subject line says “Admission Decision,” but I have not opened it. My parents believe I am asleep. My violin is beside the bed, still carrying rosin dust from the audition. I have spent thirteen years practising before school, after dinner, through holidays, illness, and the slow disappearance of everything that did not support the goal. My father borrowed money for lessons. My mother cleaned offices at night so she could drive me to rehearsals during the day. If the answer is yes, my life changes. If it is no, I become the person who made everyone sacrifice for a dream that could not recognise me. I keep refreshing the inbox as if a second email might arrive and soften the first. The unopened message still contains both futures. I know eventually I must choose one by clicking. For now, fear has made uncertainty feel more merciful than truth.
