I have written the resignation email but cannot send it
Dear Delyara, I am a school principal, and everyone assumes I know how to lead under pressure. Staff bring me problems. Parents demand answers. Children are sent to my office when other adults cannot manage what happens next. I have done this for twelve years. For the last six months, I have been vomiting before work. I sit in the car every morning until someone notices my vehicle and waves through the window, forcing me to become Principal Harris before I am ready. My doctor says the stress is affecting my blood pressure and sleep. My husband wants me to leave. I have written the resignation email. It is eleven sentences. I have edited it forty times. I cannot press send because the school is struggling, two senior teachers have already left, and I know what my departure would do to everyone remaining. I tell students that asking for help is strength. I tell staff no job is worth destroying their health. Then I close my office door and swallow medication so I can stay until the final bell. I am afraid of failing if I leave and afraid my body will decide for me if I stay.
