My Diary

I heard my daughter say “Mum” and needed one full second before answering

Dear Delyara, That second mattered. Not because I didn’t care. Because by evening, the word Mum can contain a whole invisible paragraph. Come here. Decide this. Find that. Listen now. Comfort me. Fix it. Look at this. Answer now. Carry this little emotional or practical thing with me because I still can’t. I love her. I also needed that second. Then I answered softly. That is part of what women do all day: create tenderness in the tiny gap between their real fatigue and the version of themselves they choose to give the people they love.
