The PlotFear of Failure

I Keep Delaying What I Want and Calling the Delay “Wisdom” Because That Sounds Better Than “I’m Terrified”

Dear Delyara, Fear has become sophisticated in me. It no longer says, “Don’t.” It says, “Wait.” It says, “You need more clarity.” It says, “This isn’t the responsible time.” It says, “Don’t be foolish.” It says, “You have too much to lose.” It says, “Later, when the children are older, when the money is better, when your mind is clearer, when you feel less exposed, when the idea is stronger.” Some of that is real. But underneath it is still the same old dread: of trying visibly and not becoming. Of reaching and being answered with ordinary limitation. Of exposing hope to daylight and watching it fail like anything else human. That fear has kept me in preparation for too long. Preparation looks productive from the outside. Inside, it is becoming a very expensive kind of standstill.
