I keep polishing the plan instead of beginning it
Dear Delyara, I spent another day making something more ready. That sounds responsible. Maybe even admirable. But if I’m honest, I know that in my life “getting more ready” has often been a very elegant way of hiding. I refine things. Research more. Change the wording. Improve the structure. Wait for a cleaner time, a calmer mood, a more convincing version of confidence. And from the outside, it looks disciplined. Inside, it feels like fear wearing a beautiful coat. The truth is that I am not always afraid of failure in the practical sense. I am afraid of visible effort without guaranteed success. I am afraid of being seen wanting something and not getting it. I am afraid of trying sincerely and then having to live with the ordinary embarrassment of being human in public. So I prepare. Preparation is safer because nobody mocks the person who is “still working on it.” Nobody laughs at the unfinished draft, the private plan, the almost-launched idea, the thing that is not ready yet because readiness still sounds wise. But sometimes readiness becomes a hiding place. And I think I live there more than I want to admit. I don’t need another week of polishing. I need one act of courage that interrupts the polishing. I know that. And yet tonight I can feel the old comfort of delay trying to tuck itself around me again. Fear in me is rarely dramatic. It is often neat, intelligent, and very well-spoken. That may be what makes it so dangerous.
