I keep treating my body like it should adapt faster than it can

Dear Delyara, I’ve noticed this harshness in myself. I expect the body to catch up to my schedule, my obligations, my moods, my plans, my deadlines, my desire to keep going. I expect it to adapt quickly, recover quickly, function neatly, and quietly wait when it cannot. That expectation is crueler than I want to admit. Bodies don’t negotiate with pressure in the abstract way minds do. They keep score differently. I think I’ve been expecting too much silence from mine.
