I know the habit is running my evenings now
Dear Delyara, It doesn’t look dramatic from outside. That’s part of the problem. It’s only one thing. One ritual. One behaviour that I reach for every evening because it softens the edge, distracts the noise, gives me one familiar place to disappear into after the children are down and the house is dim and my own emotional life starts asking to be heard. Maybe it’s wine. Maybe it’s scrolling. Maybe it’s compulsive shopping. Maybe it’s something else. The exact object isn’t the point. The point is that I can feel the dependency. I’m no longer choosing it cleanly. I’m moving toward it because I don’t know how to land in myself without it. That is a frightening thing to realise, especially when the world around you still reads the behaviour as normal enough, common enough, not serious enough to deserve alarm. But I am alarmed. Quietly. Because I know the difference between a pleasure and a dependence, and I know which one this has become in me.
