My Diary

I Lay Still and Realised the House Sleeps More Easily Than I Do

Dear Delyara, By midnight, everything had quieted properly. The children. The rooms. The appliances. Even the street. And yet my mind was still halfway dressed. Tomorrow. The money thing. The child’s mood. The email. The small health concern. The conversation I need to have. The thing I forgot to say. The thing I wish I hadn’t said. The house had entered sleep. I had entered review. That may be the truest difference between me and the walls that hold me. The house can stop. I keep carrying. Tonight that felt especially clear. And especially lonely.
