I Left the Job That Was Draining Me

Dear Delyara, My career victory was not getting promoted. It was leaving. From the outside, it looked ungrateful. I had stability, routine, a title that sounded respectable enough, and a job people told me I was lucky to have. But inside that job, I was shrinking. Every Sunday evening felt like mourning. Every Monday morning felt like self-betrayal in a neat shirt. It took me a long time to admit that just because something was stable did not mean it was right. Stability can still cost you too much. It can still numb you. It can still steal the sharpness of your life one week at a time. The day I left, I was terrified. But I also felt something I had not felt in a long time: relief. Sometimes career success is not climbing. Sometimes it is reclaiming.
