My Diary

I Left the Lights Off in the Living Room

Dear Delyara, I walked in, saw the cushions out of place, the charger wire hanging down, one sock under the chair, and instead of turning the lights on and dealing with any of it, I left the room dark. It was not laziness. It was refusal. I didn’t want one more room asking something from me. So I let the darkness keep its secrets for an extra hour. There was a strange relief in not seeing the work waiting. Maybe that says something about how tired I really was.
